Six DVD set containing 18 films. Cary Grant’s ‘30s Paramount tenure is saluted in this box. Madame Butterfly (1932), based on the play which also inspired Puccini’s opera, stars Grant as an American naval officer in Japan who woos and abandons a geisha-in-training (Sylvia Sydney). Cary comes to his girlfriend’s (Nancy Carroll) aid when an ex-flame’s murder leaves her The Woman Accused (1933); John Halliday co-stars. Ex-gangster Ace Corbin’s (Grant) past catches up to him on board an offshore Gambling Ship (1933); with Glenda Farrell. A switchboard operator (Frances Drake) falls for one of her building’s tenants (Grant) and tires to disconnect him from con artists in Ladies Should Listen (1934). And Enter Madame! (1935) finds Cary cast as a new husband who fears he’s playing second fiddle to his opera diva wife’s (Elissa Landi) singing career.
