Product Notes
One of the least regarded, but arguably one of the most talented of the many female pianist/vocalists who inhabited the West Coast during the 1940s, Mabel Scott was beautiful, elegant and classically trained, with a strong voice suitable for torchy ballads as well as uptempo jump novelties. Her first post-war sessions were made for Hub and Exclusive between 1946 and 1948 on which, apart from named stars like Maxwell Davis and Charles Brown, the session musicians are largely unknown. The musicians on the two 1950 King sessions, however, are very well known, and the dates resulted in excellent contributions from trumpeter Joe Wilder, pianist Milt Buckner and tenor sax man Buddy Tate.
