This contains some delightful tracks from a near legendary concert. Many jazz fans would spend a fortune to be able to travel back in time and have a front row seat at the 'Embassy Auditorium' that Monday night, April 22, 1946. It was the opening concert of Norman Ganz's "Jazz at the Philharmonic Spring Tour 1946" featuring Buck Clayton, Charlie Parker, Willie Smith, Coleman Hawkins and Lester Young. Although Meade seems a little out of context among these swing and bop bars, his playing as a soloist proved a big hit with the crowds. 4 tracks, including a very fast rendition of "Honky Tonk Train Blues, " were neatly packed into an album on the Disc label and sold quite well. These were to be his last recordings for almost six years.
