This album, recorded in New York City playgrounds, schools, and summer camps, presents a musical snapshot of children living in the Big Apple in 1978. Reflecting the cultural diversity of the city, many of the songs originate from other parts of the United States and the world, but, as musician and educator Dr. Edna Smith Edet explains, the children have changed and adapted them. She identifies various other factors that shape the children's repertoires as well. While the children sing without instrumental accompaniment, the lively street songs feature hand clapping and foot stomping. Liner notes by Dr. Edet include song lyrics, and directions for dance moves and games to accompany the songs.
