Product Notes
Unique 2011 two CD set. Disc One contains previously unreleased Kenton performances. Stan's under-rated 1959 band proves it belongs in the upper echelon of Kenton groups in appealing live sessions at the St. Francis hotel in San Francisco and Chicago's Blue Note. Elegant, thrilling and dramatic arrangements, both cool and hot, along with excellent ensemble delivery and rich sound quality make this a must-have disc for all Kenton fans and other big band junkies alike. Disc Two features never before recorded Kenton charts from the '50s by legendary writers Bill Holman, Bill Russo, Gene Roland and Lennie Niehaus. The DePaul University Jazz Ensemble delivers an appealing and robust program of major historical significance. From black dots on old pages that lay unknown for half a century to listener's ears courtesy of DePaul, Tantara and most of all, Stan Kenton.
