Product Notes

One of the finest and most influential 1950's era vocal groups in pop music history, The Flamingos sophisticated vocal style would later impact the Motown sound of the 1960's and the Philly Soul sound of the 1970's. Founded by Baltimore natives Jake and Zeke Carey, The Flamingos formed in Chicago in the early 1950's. Featured here are two of their highly sought after tracks recorded for the Parrot label in 1954. The Flamingo vocal line-up is Nate Nelson (lead), Johnny Carter (first tenor and falsetto), Zeke Carey (second tenor), Paul Wilson (baritone), and Jake Carey (bass). "I Found a New Baby" employs a four-horn front line (Sonny Cohn, trumpet; Bobby Floyd, trombone; Red Holloway, tenor saxophone; and Mac Easton, baritone sax) for a big band feel, while the ballad "Dream of a Lifetime" features a combo led by bandleader/bassist Al Smith; featuring either Lucius Washington or Cliff Davis (tenor sax), probably Willie Jones (piano and Celeste), Lefty Bates (guitar), and Paul Gusman (drums). Newly re-mastered.
