Product Notes
Towards the end of his stay in Berlin stated, the English musicologist Charles Burney: 'Of all the sound engineers who have been in Prussian service for more than thirty years, perhaps only two, namely C. Ph. E. Bach and Franz Benda alone had the courage even to be original, the others are imitators. ' From a serf family to arise, the Benda brothers by intelligence, perseverance and diligence had worked his court musicians to widely respected. While Franz Benda (1709-1786) was from 1733 until his death, more than fifty years in the service of Frederick II. Of Prussia, his brother Georg Anton was (1722-1795) only eight years of court orchestra at before he 1750 as Kapellmeister Friedrich III. Changed from Saxe-Gotha Gotha. To mark the 300th birthday of Franz Benda Il Gardellino has recorded several concerts of the brothers for ACCENT. The recorded works underline Burney assessment, and our view of the early classical period is here enriched by wonderful, far too little known music.
