The master of New Orleans blues and boogie woogie piano, Champion Jack Dupree's influence on a generation of barrelhouse piano players that followed is undisputed. While working as a cook in Detroit he met the great Joe Louis who encouraged young Jack to become a boxer. He ultimately fought in over 100 bouts, winning championships and Golden Glove awards, picking up the nickname "Champion Jack" which he used for the rest of his life. The rare, classic sides presented here were recorded in Copenhagen, Denmark in June of 1962. All selections newly remastered.
