Full of clues as to where Led Zeppelin was going to take their sound in the ’80s, In Through the Out Door (1979) has the unfortunate distinction of being the final statement of perhaps the most influential of all rock drummers. Bonham’s big foot and masterful stick work lead the charge as the band moves from their signature guitar workouts to melodic synth songs to Latin, country and blues detours. The Led Zeppelin story wasn’t supposed to end with this album, but this was a grand swan song for one of the greatest rock bands ever to walk the Earth. Atlantic.
