Product Notes
Maureen O'Sullivan (David Copperfield) and Academy Award-« winner Henry Fonda (1981, Best Actor, on Golden Pond) star in a compelling drama about two men accused of a crime they didn't commit, and the woman who is determined to see them cleared. Brick Tennant (Fonda) and his beautiful fiance, Mary (O'Sullivan), are on the verge of their nuptials, planning to have their dream house built, and establishing his taxi cab business. When poor eyewitness testimony and circumstantial evidence pin a murder on Brick and his friend, Joe, Mary is determined to prove their innocence. She enlists Detective Lieutenant Everett (Ralph Bellamy, the Awful Truth) to help solve the crime and keep Brick and Joe from the electric chair. Directed by John Brahm (The Mad Magician, the Locket) with cinematography by the great Lucien Ballard (Crime and Punishment, the Wild Bunch), whose collaboration makes this taut, dark drama feel more like an early film noir. Newly remastered.
