Product Notes
Here is a collection of songs from a rare live performance by one of blues' greatest lyricists Percy Mayfield, featuring guest appearances from Pee Wee Clayton and Ron Thompson. Mayfield was an R&B vocalist and composer known for his smoky baritone vocals and famous accompaniments to the top jazz players of his generation. Also often showcasing his calibre as a composer, he was a master of expressing his true emotions through song and was most well-known for the classic track "Hit the Road Jack", which later became a hit for Ray Charles's in 1961 and prompted Ray to sign Mayfield to his record company 'Tangerine Records' as a songwriter later that year. This album features Percy at his best and boldest, and includes 1950's breakout hit "Please Send Me Someone to Love", which went on to be covered and coveted by numerous artists in the decades to come.
