Product Notes
Meet John Doe - Digitally Remastered. A fired reporter's white lie spirals out of control when a fake suicide letter from a fictitious "John Doe" turns into a rousing political movement. Helmed by master filmmaker Frank Capra and starring screen legends Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck, Meet John Doe centers on fired reporter Ann Mitchell (Stanwyck), who pens and prints a fake letter from an unemployed John Doe in protest of all that is wrong with society. When the letter garners major attention and begins to incite a grassroots political movement, Anne is forced to hire John Willoughby, a homeless ex-baseball player, to pose as the anonymous writer. As the letter's philosophy begins to spread across the country and their lie becomes more and more complicated, an unlikely romance between Ann and John blossoms. Upon it's release in 1941, the film was met with praise from critics and audiences alike and received an Academy Award nomination for the screenplay by Richard Connell and Robert Presnell Sr. Meet John Doe still stands as a major success in Capra, Cooper, and Stanwyck's astounding careers.
