Product Notes
In 1777, a young Mozart, accompanied by his mother, embarked on a journey to Mannheim, one of Europe's most illustrious musical hubs. The city, teeming with exceptional musicians and patrons, offered Mozart the perfect environment to further his career and expand his artistic network, and it was here that he encountered the Weber sisters, particularly Konstanz, who would eventually become his muse and wife.
His time in Mannheim inspired several masterpieces, including the sublime "Vorrei Spiegarvi, oh Dio," dedicated to Aloysia Weber, but the period also marked significant collaborations for Mozart. Among these was his encounter with flautist Ferdinand Dejean, for whom he composed a series of flute concertos and quartets. The andante in C Major and the rondo, originally for violin, were masterfully transposed for the flute, showcasing Mozart's unparalleled ability to adapt vocal lines for instrumental brilliance. Mozart's journey continued to Paris, where he composed the iconic Flute and Harp Concerto KV 299, a pinnacle of lyrical and symphonic beauty. However, his stay in Paris was marred by personal tragedy-the death of his mother, Ana Maria-leaving an indelible impact on his life and art. This new album from French flautist Julien Beaudiment draws inspiration from a pivotal chapter in Mozart's life, blending instrumental textures to evoke the emotional depth and virtuosity of his compositions. Collaborating with the Orchestre de l'Opera National de Lyon, the album captures the essence of Mozart's genius, from the melancholic tones of the 6 variations on "Alas I lost my lover" to the lively exchanges between harp and flute.
