Original Dixieland Jazz Band 1943 + Joe Marsala and his Band 1944. The Original Dixieland Jazz Band was a Dixieland jazz band that made the first jazz recordings in early 1917. Their "Livery Stable Blues" became the first jazz record ever issued. The group composed and made the first recordings of many jazz standards, the most famous being "Tiger Rag". In late 1917 the spelling of the band's name was changed to Original Dixieland Jazz Band. The band consisted of five musicians who had played in the Papa Jack Laine bands, a racially integrated group of musicians who played for parades, dances, and advertising in New Orleans. This 1943 edition of this pioneering jazz band features Wild Bill Davison, Eddie Edwards, Frank Signorelli, Billy Butterfield, Joe Marsala, Eddie Condon... this is the real deal here, folks! Many of these 26 tracks are previously unreleased: "The Sphinx," "Satanic Blues," "Wabash Blues," "High Society," "Tiger Rag," "Fidgety Feet," "Clarinet Marmalade," "Panama," "Ostrich Walk" and more hot stuff.
