Sam Peckinpah's brutal, mythic western saga focuses on the pursuit of outlaw Billy the Kid (Kris Kristofferson) by friend-turned-lawman Pat Garrett (James Coburn) in 1880s New Mexico. After escaping his former pal's custody-and the hangman's gallows-Billy joins back up with his old gang while Garrett is hired by a corrupt group of land speculators to bring him down once and for all.
