A talented band leader, Terry Rooney, from New York is offered a bigtime Hollywood movie contract. Soon Rooney, played by James Cagney butts heads with studio execs who want to remold his image and get him to agree to stay single for seven years - even though he wants to marry his fiancee back in NYC. Filled with song and dance, this is the last film Cagney made for Grand National Pictures.
