Last fall, guitarists John McLaughlin and Jimmy Herring embarked on the acclaimed The Meeting Of The Spirits Tour. Each musician performed with their own bands before coming together to perform material from McLaughlin’s The Mahavishnu Orchestra days. A new album entitled Live In San Francisco features the final portion of the tour’s stop at The Warfield Theatre in San Francisco and is due on September 21 via Abstract Logix.

The 73-minute live album was recorded on December 8, 2017 – the penultimate night of the run. McLaughlin & The 4th Dimension featuring Ranjit Barot (drums, konokol), Gary Husband (keyboards, drums), and Etienne M’Bappé (bass) were joined by Herring & The Invisible Whip featuring Kevin Scott (bass), Matt Slocum (Clavinet and B3), Jason Crosby (Fender Rhodes, violin, vocals) and Jeff Sipe (drums) for eight Mahavishnu favorites including “Meeting Of The Spirits,” “A Lotus On Irish Streams” and “The Dance Of The Maya” from 1971’s The Inner Mounting Flame, the title track from 1973’s Birds Of Fire and “Trilogy” from 1973’s Between Nothingness & Eternity.
