Womanizing sailor Spike Madden (Victor McLaglen) tries to live up to the title boast, only to find he has competition when fellow tar Salami (Robert Armstrong) begins to claim Spike's beauties for his own. The two eventually become friends, but when Salami learns that a Marseille mademoiselle (Louise Brooks)-whom Spike has fallen for-is a gold-digger, will the smitten swabbie listen?
