Product Notes

Digitally remastered edition of the punk bard's second album for CBS is also his most celebrated and admired. The Streets owe a huge debt to JCC, who paved the way for a white man to rap. From the opening chords of "Evidently Chickentown" to the end of "Distant Relation", Clarke expounds his manifesto from the working class of Manchester in the face of the rampant Thatcherism at the start of the 1980's. Clarke's jibes were alternately serious as a knife edge and balls out hilarious. Backing tracks were created by the late Martin "The Martian" Hannett (Joy Division, Durutti Column) and the Invisible Girls (including Pete Shelley and Bill Nelson). Included here are concert favorites "Beasley Street" and the smirking "Limbo". with tongue planted firmly in cheek, to quote one reviewer, "JCC has 'em all sussed!".
