Product Notes
Digitally remastered edition of this album originally released on Flying Dutchman Records. SUPER BLACK BLUES was producer Bob Thiele's attempt to emulate the all-star sessions which were popular, with the Fleetwood Mac-led BLUES JAM IN CHICAGO in particular. He assembled three stars he had signed to the label: Big Joe Turner, T-Bone Walker and Otis Spann, all three highly influential players within the Blues sphere. Spann had been Muddy Waters' chosen accompanist since the early '50s, Walker a pioneer of the electric guitar and Turner had a career that stretched back to the 1930s cutting some of the definitive early Rock 'n' roll hits. Putting them together in the studio was an inspired move. Matched with some of the finest session musicians on the West Coast, with George 'Harmonica' Smith in outstanding form, this album allows the main artists' freedom. Only four songs were recorded, but they provide each star a showcase, and the chance to interact to great effect. Joe Turner and T-Bone share most of the vocals.
