Symphonies 3 & 4 Stabat Mater

This second, star-studded installment of Valery Gergiev's Szymanowski symphony cycle features tenor Toby Spence as tenor soloist in the Symphony No.3, subtitled Song of the Night, and internationally renowned pianist Denis Matsuev as soloist in the virtuosic Symphony No. 4, subtitled Symphonie concertante. Szymanowski's Stabat Mater completes the disc and stars soprano Sally Matthews, mezzo Ekaterina Gubanova and baritone Kostas Smoriginas. Szymanowski's third symphony combines the influences of Wagner, Chopin and Scriabin. The fourth symphony, one of Szymanowski's last compositions, was dedicated to Arthur Rubinstein and is a piano concerto in all but name.
