When "The Raven" finished shooting three days early, a thrifty Roger Corman used the cast and sets for this surprisingly effective chiller. Jack Nicholson plays Andre Duvalier, a lieutenant in Napoleon's army who is haunted by a mysterious woman named Helene (Nicholson's then-wife Sandra Knight) in mad Baron von Leppe's (Boris Karloff) sinister castle.
