Product Notes
Koko Mojo Records introduce our new Spotlight Series, which inaugurates with the voice of R&B Clyde McPhatter, and as an added introductory bonus, the album runs to thirty-two recording. The album throughout is decorated with photographs and, the sleeve notes offer information on his life and career. Our EP-A Whole Heap Of Clyde McPhatter (KM-EP-107) sold out and customer demand for more recordings has been answered with Clyde McPhatter The Voice of R&B (KM-CD-94). Clyde McPhatter fronted Federal Records super-group Billy Ward and His Dominoes, his career at Atlantic Records began when he helped form The Drifters and he then gained international solo fame while signed to the label. The album additionally explores key performances for MGM and Mercury Records. McPhatter was blessed with a distinctive high tenor vocal with heavy use of melisma and sang with gospel fervor and, every recording is embellished with finesse. His "crying tenor" vocal has been imitated but never bettered! McPhatter has several posthumous awards. He was inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a solo artist in 1987, and then as a founder member of The Drifters in 1988. The United States Postal Service issued a stamp in his honor in 1993. As a member of Billy Ward and The Dominoes, he was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2006. His home state inducted him into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame in 2009. Our albums have; stunning design, sleeve notes, songs mastered for the best possible sound. The disc is housed in an attractively designed cardboard sleeve, specially designed to avoid the use of plastic and be environmentally friendly. You are listening to music from the past and preserving the future!
