When Pat moves in with her dad, a retired baseball player, she befriends Steve, an orphan who lives with his aunt and uncle. Although Steve is committed to his studies, his uncle forces him to stay home and work. When Pat's father tries to reason with Steve's uncle, he forbids the boy from attending the basket social. When Steve goes anyway, he faces harsh consequences and runs away - straight into two thieves.
