Volume 45 of the recordings of Duke Ellington in chronological order includes material that was made within less than a month. It is not quite clear why all of a sudden Ellington and his band were able to record so frequently but it is a highly welcome coincidence. The opening "Kinda Dukish" by the leader plus rhythm proves an excellent burst with Ellington in pristine form. The big band tracks made in early December '53 remained unissued for many decades.
