Product Notes

Silvana Deluigi, STEVE SWALLOW, FERNANDO SUAREZ PAZ, PABLO ZIEGLER, HORACIO MALVICINO, RENAUD GARCIA-FONS, ROBBY AMEEN, ANDY GONZALEZ, GUSTAVO BEYTLEMANN, OSWALDO PUGLIESI, WALTER CASTRO Silvana Deluigi This Argentinian singer has bent tango to the purposes of a modern, wide-ranging musician. On"Yo!", a pan-American band of tango and jazz musicians has been assembled, including the pianist Pablo Ziegler, the drummer Robby Ameen and the bassist Steve Swallow. While they touch on tradition with the popular classic "Cuesta Abajo," made famous by Carlos Gardel, as well as a tango nuevo Astor Piazzolla piece. But they had the bright idea of going beyond Argentina as well. A version of "Te Amo," by the Brazilian songwriter Chico Buarque, is shatteringly good - slow, deep, and rhythmically loose."Yo! Is an impressive work of fragile pride and remarkable clarity. Yo!'s gift is music redolent of rich shadows, dark experience and unexpected joy."
